TL;DR
Greenline started in 1997 as one of Australia's leading shade sail installers. Over the following decades, the business evolved into a national designer and builder of large-span fabric and membrane structures - covered outdoor learning areas (COLAs), tensile canopies, barrel vault covers, and custom commercial shade systems for schools, sports clubs, councils, and commercial venues.
One thing hasn't changed: a single team manages the entire process, from the first consultation through to construction handover.
Where it started
Shade sails were the beginning. From 1997, Greenline built a strong reputation across schools, clubs, and community organisations for delivering shade sail installations that were reliable, well-made, and professionally managed. Headquartered in Wagga Wagga, the business grew the way most regional companies grow, project by project, referral by referral, anchored by quality delivered at every step.
Over time, the briefs got bigger. Clients who had trusted us with shade sails started returning with more complex requirements. Schools needed permanent covered outdoor learning areas. Sports clubs wanted full court covers. Councils needed large-span canopies over high-traffic spaces that could hold up year-round. The work was evolving, and so were we.
That transition, from shade sail installer to fabric and membrane structure designer and builder, is what defines Greenline today.
What we design and build today
The structures we work on now are a different category of work to shade sails. Greenline specialises in large-span fabric and membrane structures: tensile canopies, barrel vault covers, covered outdoor learning areas (COLAs) for schools, full-length court covers for basketball, tennis, and netball, and custom commercial shade systems for car parks, bowling greens, aquatic centres, and multipurpose recreation spaces.
These are permanent, engineered structures, designed to Australian standards and built to handle the demands of the site and the people who use them every day. The clients we work with most are schools, sports clubs and associations, local councils, and commercial and hospitality venues. The scale of these projects is what separates them from shade sail work, and it is why the process matters as much as the product.
Does Greenline Service My Area?

If you are located in Australia, the answer is yes.
The majority of our projects are on the East Coast, a reflection of where the business started and where it has grown most. But our reach is national, with projects delivered from Western Australia to Tasmania to Queensland.
Like the company itself, our network has grown significantly since 1997.
We work with a strong chain of suppliers and sub-contractors we know and rely on, and our core team of experienced contractors travels wherever a project takes them. On top of this, we engage local businesses on every project, suppliers for equipment hire, excavation of footings, and underground service location, to make sure each project runs efficiently regardless of where it sits on the map.
Getting Onsite
Does your project require an onsite consultation? We can have someone there quickly. Our sales team travels regularly across Australia, and it would be unusual to go more than two weeks without someone in or near your area for a face-to-face meeting. That applies whether you are in Far North Queensland or Tasmania.
For larger projects, we have travelled the length and breadth of Australia, and even overseas, with a project in Samoa. These are typically our large-span COLA or barrel vault structures, used to cover bowling greens, sports courts, car parks, and other large multipurpose spaces. At this scale, we can deliver custom fabric solutions that remain competitive right across the country.
How a Greenline project works
What has stayed constant through the transition from shade sails to large-span structures is the way we manage a project. Greenline operates as a single point of responsibility: we consult, design, and construct. One team, one contract, one point of contact from the initial conversation through to handover.
We are also a registered commercial builder, which means our scope can extend beyond the shade structure itself. If your project requires court resurfacing, retaining walls, or other site works alongside the structure, that can all sit within our scope. For clients managing a school, a sports facility, or a council site, that matters; it removes the coordination burden that comes with managing multiple contractors across a single project.
Whether your project is a single covered court or a large-scale custom structure, for a school, a sports club, a local council, or a hospitality venue, we have the experience, the systems, and the partnerships to deliver exactly what was agreed.
If you are exploring what a covered outdoor space could look like for your organisation, our projects page is a useful starting point where you will find examples across schools, sports clubs, council facilities, and commercial venues:

Frequently asked questions
Does Greenline still install shade sails?
Shade sails are where the business started, but they are no longer our focus. Over the past two decades, Greenline has moved into large-span fabric and membrane structures, a different category of work in terms of scale, engineering, and process.
If you have come across Greenline in the context of shade sails, the capability you will find today goes considerably further than that.
What types of structures does Greenline design and build?
Our work covers a wide range of large-span fabric and membrane structures: covered outdoor learning areas (COLAs) for schools, tensile canopies, barrel vault covers, full-length court covers for basketball, tennis, and netball, and custom commercial shade systems for car parks, bowling greens, aquatic centres, multipurpose recreation spaces, and hospitality.
Each structure is designed and engineered to the specific requirements of the site, the audience, and the Australian climate.
How does Greenline manage projects across Australia?
We operate nationally, with the majority of our projects on the East Coast and a strong track record of delivering in regional and remote locations. Every project is managed by our core team, supported by a reliable network of local suppliers and sub-contractors who handle excavation, equipment hire, and underground services. The model keeps projects efficient regardless of geography, without compromising on the standard of work.
How do I start a conversation about a project?
The most useful first step is usually a look at what we have delivered for organisations similar to yours.
