Built in 2014, Pinks Reserve offers a place for thousands of keen netballers to gather, train and compete.
The regional netball facility sits inside a broader sports precinct which is equipped with sports ovals, a softball ground and indoor sports stadium. As one of the most popular sporting grounds in the area, Pinks Reserve often sees more than 5,000 visitors come through each Saturday for netball games played across its 12 courts.
The project was planned and split into three , starting 2019 with the subsequent stages two and three were completed in 2022, four permanent shelters to cover half of the total courts on site.
The structures were designed to be state-of-the-art and fit to host regional netball competitions. This included adding skylights and infills to naturally illuminate the courts during games and practice. Electrical lighting is built to the AS 2560.2.4 Class 1 standard (well above typical outdoor lighting levels) and allows the netballers to continue playing well into the evening or boost lighting during gloomy days.
The COLAs provide all-weather cover and keep the area sheltered, even during the rainiest of days. In-ground plumbing diverts the rainwater into surrounding stormwater lines, reducing the risk of water pooling or flooding. Careful consideration was also given to the sports precincts surrounds; a soundwall was installed to minimise noise impact on surrounding houses and the structures are equipped with fire sprinklers to meet compliance . Given the location, bird proofing was a priority to reduce maintenance needs.
Situated in a leafy reserve, careful planning was needed to navigate site access and ensure there was no damage to the surrounding trees. Greenline worked closely with the council and netball association to make the build as streamlined as possible. This also meant taking special care to protect sensitive court surfaces.
The Pinks Reserve project is one of Greenline’s largest projects to date. And what a showstopper! The COLAs have been welcomed by netballers and the broader community; the space has been transformed, setting it up for many more years of games, practice and support from the sidelines. The improvements to the courts continue to enhance the sporting precinct but most importantly, the area provides a vital space for the community to gather, practice and compete in one of Australia’s most-loved sports.
