BRIEF
Nepean Christian College needed to shade their junior lunch area to minimise the heat coming from artificial turf exposed to the sun. Did you know that a 2020 microclimates report by Prof. Pfautsch found that artificial turf can be up to 20 degrees hotter than the outside temperature?
Greenline had previously constructed two shade sails over the amphitheater at the college (also pictured above).

OUR APPROACH
The College wanted the space to remain obstruction free, so the structures were designed with all posts remaining outside the perimeter of the area. Also, as the play space was already complete, both our design and installation team needed to approach this strategically to design a structure that could be installed without damaging the existing artificial surface.

OUTCOME
A single four post sail with a natural toned colour scheme to fit with the existing architecture and the beautiful surrounding environment. The free-flowing form of the hypar shade sails complements the organic feel of the area and helps the structure to fit the varying levels in the space. To ensure this space remained as functional as it is beautiful, all posts were placed at the extremities of the area to minimise interruption of the play space.
